One of the few video rental places left in Ottawa. Now that Invisible Cinema, Tundra Moving Pictures, and Phoenix Video have all closed their doors, Glebe Video International is just about the only place left to rent anything else than the typical Hollywood blockbuster fare. It is also the only place left with knowledgeable staff who are interested in film and who are able to recommend titles. Glebe Video is located on the second floor of 779 Bank Street, just above the Royal Oak. The space is on the small side and a little cramped, for the good reason that the walls are covered from top to bottom in shelves of DVDs. Of course, they have the new releases found at any rental place. But the main attraction is the international films, independent films, documentaries, and classics that one would be hard-pressed to find anywhere else - including VHS tapes of films that were never converted to DVD. In the 7 years since I discovered Glebe Video, I don't think I have once gone in and not found what I was looking for. Despite the unfathomable number of films they have, the staff always seem to know what they have and where it is. Glebe Video is a gem, but with Netflix and illegal downloading putting more and more places out of business, it's one that I'm afraid we might soon lose.

Rare find hidden above a pub. Why not slow down from the on demand lifestyle and take your time browsing their collection. They have approximately 18,000 titles including New Releases, TV series, large International and Classics collections, Documentaries and Rare films.
