  I visited Boone Plumbing for the first time yesterday in search of 20 inch whole-house filter cartridges. The counter staff, although polite and attentive, assured me that they were not stocked and to get one it would take about 3 weeks. Same with quick connect tubing valves. I was pretty shocked at this, but it's not unreasonable that a bit-player like me would be politely shown the door. There really isn't any upside to dealing with someone wanting to special-order an 8 dollar part. Inside, it is obvious that Boone is more focused on contractors doing entire buildings with standard, high volume parts. If you're in the bigger volume game and you don't want to mess around with retail focused suppliers, Boone's is probably a good place to be looking. They obviously have the stuff to set you up with a thousand feet of tubing and all the PEX accessories your crew can use in short order (the stacks of tubing rolls were almost 3 stories high in the back.) However, if you're looking for someone to hold your hand and show you the esoteric, one-off solution to the fitting that is no longer made, then steer clear - the retail shops have the staff on hand who can set you up with a few of these, a couple of those and one of them things there and get you back to your weekend plumbing project. Kudos to the gent at the counter. He never gave me the impression that I was an annoyance which, in hindsight, I must have been - and I accept that. That gracefulness points to a quality that Boone's should be proud of. For that, 4 stars.
