::Cheaper than the bookstore, but you are still better of buying books from other students

::As others have mentioned, the customer service is the worst. The younger workers are OK, they try to be helpful when they can. But the person I've seen at the store the most (I'm guessing she's an owner or manager) is this terrible, mean old lady (in her fifties? sixties?) who never smiles (without looking like a crocodile). The few interactions I've had with her convinced me that spending an extra $5/book at the U of T bookstore (where no ones goes out of their way to make you feel like a nuisance) is completely worth it. A few months back, I bought a used textbook for a summer course that I eventually dropped. So I try returning the textbook maybe 18 days later. The old lady tells me I can't, since they have a 15-day return policy in the summer instead of the usual 30 days, and that someone told me when I bought it. Except I'm 100% sure no one did! All of their policies (including those for buyback) are horrible, and geared towards maximizing their profit at our expense. And most importantly, it's not like you save a lot of money shopping here. Back when I was in first year, you could save about 20-30% on most books (and I didn't run into the old lady that time, which was a huge plus). Last year, savings dropped to 8% on most books, and now, 5%. Really not worth it, save yourself the pain and stress and buy the books at U of T, or better yet, Amazon or the used textbook FB group.

::Textbooks are fine but the staff have never been pleasant. Today my experience here was exceptionally bad and I will not be returning here I was walking in with older versions of textbooks looking to see if they would be bought back. As I am walking IN with them in my hand, an older gentleman stops me and demands in a loud voice "Where do you think youre going with those?" Obviously I'm taken aback and respond that they were mine too begin with so there's nothing to worry about. He looks at me and responds with the same awful tone "and how am I supposed to know that?! We have those in stock here" despite the fact that EVERY book I'm holding is NOT used at this university anymore and despite the fact that he didn't even bother to look at what books I'm holding. I'm about to explain to him that I'm gonna look to sell these back and I can't do that if I'm not allowed to walk in with them. But at this point his coworker comes around and makes me feel completely ganged up on despite me literally just stepping foot in the place. She explains to me that I can't bring them in despite her noting that they are old editions they don't carry. She was helpful but still only after I was humiliated in public for no reason. Will not return and would rather pay only marginally more for new textbooks and always pleasant service at the UofT Bookstore.
