::The nice young fellow at The Forks wine shop pointed me in the direction of this establishment when I enquired where the nearest place to buy beer was located. In his defence he admitted to not being a beer drinker. Against my better judgement, my wife and I entered the Hotel Winnipeg to buy some beer from the off licence. I use the term hotel in it's broadest sense. The cashier for reasons best known to himself, took our entrance as the signal to count the entire months takings which seemed to consist of every $5 note ever printed in the history of Canada. The queue of patrons waiting consisted of a couple of drunks and a guy who looked to have got out of prison that morning. We had the pleasure of some drunken banter while the cashier was joined by friend and they preceded to start the process all over again. When the roughest guy in the line gave up in disgust and walked out I took that as my cue to leave as fast as possible. I consider the fact that neither of us were killed during this episode to be the crowning achievement. needless to say there was a perfectly good, safe and well lit Manitoba Liquor Mart in the mall in the CBD.
