::We live just around the corner from here and pass it almost every day but just assumed it was a basic cafe not worth stopping at however when we realised it was run by the North Shore Culinary School we thought it was worth trying. It's actually really nice inside with a bar and booths then there are benches outside. We had an incredible breakfast (best I've had in a while) and will definitely be back to try the dinner.

::With May being Social Enterprise Month in British Columbia, I thought it would be pretty neat to attend a dinner hosted by North Shore Culinary School to learn about how owner and chef, Don Guthro, merges business with social causes. The North Shore Culinary School is unique in Vancouver, being completely tuition free, with funds from Don’s other ventures, such as his catering company Culinary Choreography, making this possible. A special dinner was held at the Discovery Cafe and Restaurant at Jericho Beach, which is run by the School and offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner year-round, to allow the School’s students to showcase their skills. Students from the culinary program work here to gain experience and earn income while studying. The dinner was extra meaningful as it allowed Don to highlight the issue of food waste and promote food recovery - food that is perfectly edible but would be thrown out by farms and grocery stores because its appearance did not meet standards that consumers expect - such as two carrots intertwined together while growing. Rebel soup, a soon to launch soup company which also champions this cause, was present as well to share the process of working with farms to recover food that farmers leave behind during harvest and turn it into edible products. When you’re visiting Jericho Beach, be sure to stop by Discovery Cafe for a drink and some food and support chefs-in-training! You will find casual comfort food on their regular menu.
