::I took my Lexus 2010 RX350 in to Meineke for an oil change at Carling Ave in Ottawa. After what I experienced here, I have completely lost trust in not only this location, but the Meineke brand as a whole. I am never going back there ever again. When I went there one week before and asked them for synthetic oil change cost (for the same car), I was told that it would cost $59 + tax. However, after I had arrived, they told me there was an additional cost, and they charged me &108.22 (including taxes). I have been doing the same service at Toyota for $81.37 (including all charges) for the 5 years I have owned this car without any issues, plus the convenience of a waiting room with a coffee machine that actually had coffee in it! Although I had booked a appointment, one week in advance, and I was there on time, I had to wait 1:15 before they took my car in. The mechanic (who happened to be the owner, Oscar), came out after 15 minutes with the drain plug in his hand. He claimed that the drain plug was stripped when the last oil change was done. He even claimed that they had covered it with sealant. They tried to re-thread the plug, and installed it (charged me an additional $8.00). However when I took the car home, the oil started to leak. I never had oil drips in my garage prior to taking it to this shop. If it was broken before, it would have leaked in the past 6 months when I changed oil. In addition, in my opinion it would have been more logical for Oscar to come and talk to me when he discovered that the plug was stripped, as it would have caused difficulty to remove the sealant and then plug itself, which you will understand if you have ever cross-threaded something. . The next day, I took it back, and I was told the oil drain pan had to be replaced, and it would cost me $900, for an aftermarket solution. When I asked Toyota for a quote, they said it would cost me $300-$400, including genuine Toyota parts and labor. At this point I had not an ounce of trust left in me for them, so I made what ended up being the right decision and took the car to a local Toyota dealership. They retreated (which Oscar supposedly tried and failed to do) the drain plug, and installed it. When I asked them about the possibility of using sealant after an oil change, they said they spray some paint but definitely no sealant after a drain plug has been torqued. They changed me only $86.00. I contacted Meinke customer service 2 weeks ago 1) It took them 10 days to respond (after I threatened them that I will go public), 2) Although they offered to be mediators, they did not do anything; other than repeating what Oscar told me, In the end, my experience at Meineke cost me $194.64 and 2 days on my time. I will never go back there. They tried to overcharge me for a repair that was either caused by their own incompetence or wasn't required at all, and that is unacceptable when working in an industry that the average consumer doesn't know much about. This is even more ridiculous seeing as Meineke is a brand that operates all over North America, so it is unacceptable for their corporate office to allow their franchises to operate in such a manner.

::It's so strange how reviews are at both extreme. I thought i'd pitch in. I've been doing business with them for years for one and only one reason : I felt they were honest, Oscar in particular, the owner. They never push for stuff you don't need and even will advise you on how you can save money. In one occasion, they made a mistake that caused me problems BUT, after discussing the situation with Oscar, he agreed to take responsibility and did right by me which is why I STILL go there, despite that mistake. Everyone makes mistakes every once in a while and as long as steps are taken to mitigate such mistake. This is good. Update 1 : I just brought in my vehicle for an oil change and asked them if they could verify my brakes because I suspected they might need to be replaced. They could very easily told me that I had to replace them but instead, they were objective and explained that they could probably last longer and that there were no emergency. In the end, it was my call based on what I think was honest feedback.

::Very friendly staff and great service. I would recommend to everyone to bring your car here :) prices are the cheapest around for the same or better service anywhere else. They didn't try to make me fix anything else or scared me into thinking other things needed to be fixed right away

::Always happy with the service at Meineke. They never do anything without asking and all costs are very competitive. I find them to be very honest and trustworthy, something hard at times in the industry. On one visit I was not even charged for the assessment! Can't beat that. They know how to keep loyal customers.
