  Cheap Produce & Abundant Quantities While not among the top ranked grocery providers in Ottawa, it cannot be disputed that their produce, meats, and baked goods are inexpensive, fresh, and plentiful. Best to shop here on weekday mornings. After work, and on weekends, it can be crazy busy.

  This store is unionized. Thus the usual Food Basics effort to maintain well stocked products is even higher at this location. Ottawa has multiple stores like this and benefits greatly from their presence. Don't listen to the reviews that cite poor produce freshness. They've always been good in my experience. Good work!

  I go here mainly because everything is very cheap especially when it’s on sale. But I do find the produce is pretty bad here. And does not last as long as other places. And it’s generally quite dirty with soil still but I guess you get what you pay for. Service is usually nice. And nice variety of ethnic foods are sold here.

  Large, excellent produce, clean with friendly cashiers. This is a unionized store, so health and safety for customers AND employees is very closely monitored. International selections quite extensive. Great prices. Bring yr own bags as the plastic disposable ones they sell tear quite easily. #localguide

  My wife and I always shop at Food Basics. They have great weekly deals and we always get what we need for a reasonable price. Just always double check the quality of your produce and bread. The only this I find Food Basics lacking on is having a deli, although they do offer deli meats on the more pricey end for what you get. You have to buy your bags as well for $0.05 each so if that bothers you make sure to bring your own bags.
