  Today took my son to the Civic Hospital. After I was done I saw and old gentleman couldn't pay for this parking ticket, because parking machine didn't work properly. He could barely walk, apparently he had a stroke. He pressed 'help' button on the parking machine. Lady answered him via intercom and told him to go to security office. He said he couldn't walk. She replied she will send some one there. But nobody showed up. I went to find security office for him. Got to the security office and told them there is senior person who needs help. Security guy replied: "Doesn't he have wheelchair? Cane? Why can't he just walk here?". I told him - the person just can barely walk. May be some one could assist him. And security guy said: "He can come here himself". So I went down the hall and found a wheel chair. Got back to that old gentleman. Put him into wheelchair. Took him to the security office. Where he paid for his ticket. This is famous 'free' Canadian healthcare at it's best. These employees won gold medals in "NOT MY PROBLEM" olympics. Everything happened on 16th of March @ 8:30 AM.

  Went in for an ear infection early morning. They quickly took me in and gave me meds to relieve my pain. I waited for about an hour to see a specialist that prescribed me antibiotics for the infection. Overall happy and was pleasantly surprised I did not have to wait very long, I’ve been to other hospitals and had to wait for many hours to get helped.

  Ate some cookies here. Very "industrial" feel to the place. You have to seat yourself and there are no servers. You'll see people with face mask things, so apparently there's some kind of dress code that isn't communicated. The chairs are pretty comfortable on my boney ass. Solid chip selection in the vending machines. The place could use some candles and a bit of autumn colours to warm the soul. Maybe some cinnamon-scented potpourri. Overall, not a bad place once you block out the people coughing. Rated 4 stars because there's no wine menu.

  I will never forget my experience at the Ottawa Civic's emerge. It was a little over a year ago now. I had just delivered my son, and after a long and gruelling process of being continuously turned away from another hospital's emerge, and becoming increasingly sicker, I decided to try the civic. Well actually, to say I was lucid enough to make that decision is simply, not true. (My loved ones decided on my behalf that I should go to the civic). Immediately after arriving at the civic I was put on IV antibiotics. And later it was apparent I had sepsis. Not only did the Civic quickly treat my symptoms (with appropriate urgency and caution) they also made me laugh, and smile, and they were there when I broke down in tears, sitting on my bedside and hearing me out. The nurse treated me like I was her niece, the male nurse treated me like a good friend. They were the first people I saw, and they were people first. They made me laugh, they were warm and kind, and made me almost forget why I was there. My breasts started leaking through my blue gown...because well, you know, I had recently delivered a baby, but they made me laugh about it and feel like there was no need to be embarrassed. The doctor I saw, treated me with so much respect, and kindness. I had to be examined, and after labour and an emergency surgery, he was very compassionate (seemingly knowing that I probably already felt pretty dehumanized by being continually poked and prodded and examined). He treated me with a great deal of sensitivity and respect, and I will never forget that. He was thorough and kind, which I later noticed was his demeanour with all of his patients. (I wish I could thank him in person to this day) Later, while waiting to be admitted, the nurse on staff sat on my bedside when I cried missing my baby and feeling awful that I couldn't see him. It was truly devastating, but she took the time to listen! My Mom slept at my bedside, and the nurse brought my Mom a warm blanket. (That is above and beyond in my eyes!) My positive experiences of the Civic, don't end there...but as for my experience in the emerge, I say thank you! To all of the staff, nurses, doctors, etc. for saving my life! For being there at one of the scariest moments of my life. I am a young Mom who get's to enjoy and appreciate my son, and even sometimes forget that had ever happened, and that is because of you!

  Never go to their emerge. Every single time I go here for help, I’m treated like garbage. I would rather go to the queensway or general emergency where I have been treated fairly and the doctors actually try their best to help you. You feel the difference in the care. Civic campus, screen your doctors, and never allow them to discuss important medical information to the patient when they know they’re not in a position to clearly understand. Tell the family members when they arrive to get them. Then when they do clear up they can talk to them. None of that was done.
