The hotel and rooms are clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms feel kind of tight with a king bed. I really liked the convenient food service delivered to the room. The food was pretty good. The bar tending staff were very friendly. Valet was about average for downtown Detroit as far as cost and service.

I have to say I am surprised by some of the negative reviews. I have stayed here several times on business and I have come to really like this hotel. It was once a very fancy hotel and still has some very nice touches. The rooms are situated so they sort of jut-out with windows to give you a nice view of the river. The have a comfortable chair in the room that I sit in and enjoy the view when I am working. They have decent restaurant and bar options in the building. The lobby is odd because there is a walk-in lobby on one floor and a drive-up lobby (motor lobby) a floor down you drive into from the back. (Like many things in Detroit, it was built to be car-friendly.) In my experience, this hotel is a little cheaper than most others nearby. It is very convenient to everything downtown if you are there for work, sightseeing or a ball game. I've always found the rooms clean and comfortable and appreciate the nice view. If you want super fancy, this isn't it. But if you want some of the feel of a once-fancy hotel that is still nice at a decent downtown price, this is a good option.

I was really disappointed compared to what I expect from this chain. My room was really cold (63 degrees) at arrival and I couldn't get the thermostat to work -- and had to ask twice (over an hour apart) before anyone came to look at it. The next morning I went to take a shower at 8 am and the hot water never got hot. It was so tepid I didn't even try to get in. 3 of my colleagues had the same experience. I took lovely hot showers at other times, so I think their hot water system just isn't properly sized to guarantee you will get a hot shower when you want one at high-volume times. Other than those issues, the rooms were comfortable and the staff was nice.

can't say enough about how great it was to stay at this hotel. We love staying at the Casino's in town so we were a little nervous initially, but this hotel, their staff especially, went above and beyond our expectations. Easy to get to, valet was quick and we were onto check in as soon as we got in. Elaine checked us in, and I'll admit, we were a needy bunch! She and her fellow employees (Kenneth and Elaine) helped us from finding forgotten toiletries, to helping us print tickets to allowing us a late check out. The hotel was clean, the pool/hot tub were great and our room was exactly what we were looking for. Each employee we saw throughout our stay showed interest that our stay was going well. I love places like this.

The front desk staff was amazing. So helpful and nice. The valet staff isn't so great. Had a hard time communicating with them and getting into my car without paying a charge to leave it there until my orginal check out time. We had very noisy neighbors and someone called them in multiple times, they were not moves or kicked out. Did not get to sleep until after 3. Property had great amenities. Showers were not as clean as normal. Cracks in the wall and around outlets. Not as polished as other Crowne Plazas I have stayed in.
