  Love this little bookstore. An excellent kid's selection and amazing staff. Also great recommendations for fiction. I will always prefer small independents like this to big chains.

  I've been a Books on Beechwood customer for over a decade and I wrote a favourable review on this very page not too long ago, and I'm sorry to now say that I will never again buy a book from this store. I normally deal with a very pleasant and knowledgeable staff member at this store but this afternoon I had a most unpleasant experience with a different woman, who was terse, unprofessional, and just plain rude from the very moment my daughter and I walked into the store, in spite of my friendliness. The poor service reached a crescendo when I explained that I was not going to buy a children's book I had ordered because I realized when I read it to my daughter that it was a little too mature for her. The woman actually rebuked me for not purchasing a book they had ordered on my request, even though I had no way of knowing that it would not suitable for her until I read the book, and even though her understanding coworker had always explained to me that there was no pressure to buy a specially ordered book if it was not found to be appropriate. I don't understand how this woman expects to compete with book retailers such as Chapters (where I could be paying significantly less for my books, I might add) by treating a good customer with such a haughty attitude and poor customer service. Goodbye, Books on Beechwood. I'm going to find another bookstore where my patronage is appreciated by all staff.
