  No temptations yesterday but it's a great spot for the stuff that interests me. Reggae, soul, 60s stuff and Garage!! Interesting selection all around.

  Still the best place to hit for vinyl (especially for Record Store Day) - for both price (cheaper than comparable stores) and friendly/knowledgeable staff who will help you track down some rare/hard to find vinyl or just chat about the new releases. A great location right on Whyte, and they always have lots of copies of new LP releases.

  Appalling treatment by the staff. My wife and three-year-old daughter were kicked out by a dark-haired, bearded worker for the heinous crime of looking through records. The staff member accused my toddler of messing up their stock, and ejected them both from the store immediately. Top shelf behavior considering that they were there specifically because my daughter loves records so much and they were going to pick out three for her birthday next weekend. We used to buy from Blackbyrd every month but we're taking our money to one of the other shops in the city whose staff have enough spine to tolerate a quiet, well-behaved, vinyl-loving child... which, so far, is every other record store. EDIT: After my review, I personally contacted the store and spoke to the manager of the employee. Again dissatisfied, I contacted Arthur Fafard (the owner) and we had a long discussion about my family's treatment in his shop. He apologized for his employee's conduct and assured me that there would be consequences but the employee (who is long-standing with the company) would not be punished in any way. Blackbyrd is a nice shop and a welcome addition to Whyte Avenue, so I am amending my review out of respect for Mr Fafard. I realize that retail is a very difficult business and I respect Mr Fafard for apologizing personally. However, I made it clear to him that neither I nor my family feel welcome in his store, and we would not be returning.

  One of the smaller music stores in Edmonton but consistent in the quality of stock that they carry. They do special orders and sell concert tickets as well as carrying a decent variety of vinyl. The CD selection is small and focused on top sellers. Some used records too. Staff are friendly and they occasionally have in store promotions with bands or musical artists playing in the store and doing autograph sessions. Parking can be a problem at peak hours resulting in a 2 or 3 block walk, a side benefit of that is the other good stores in their vicinity and the walk is good exercise.

  Great little shop! The selection isn't the greatest, but I don't blame them since they can't carry every artists album. Super helpful though! They help you acquire the specific album you want!
